A new equipment was added today. It is a Celestron 127 EQ, 5" Newtonian. Not a premium instrument though, rather a below-average device for an astronomical society, but this 5" reflector should give a tough competition to the 6" refractor SK'EYE-3 already in use by our Society. It is expected to get the first light no earlier than April' 2009 or even June' 2009.

An activity was organised at PIA Planetarium Karachi by Pakistan Amateur Astronomers Society and other astronomers in Karachi to view the Solar Eclipse. It was seen as a 40% partial eclipse. The telescopes that participated in the activity were P.A.A.S.'s 6" refractor SK'EYE-3 Alkhawarzmi, Air Commodore Khalid Marwat's Meade 8"  SCT, and Mr. Imran Rasheed's 4.25" Newtonian.

The Comet Holmes gets bigger and brighter in the night sky, showing up almost entire night. . The comet is easily visible to naked eyes, and perfect view through a good binocular. Unfortunately our society is not being able to get good images under brightly lit urban skies, and persistently failing to snap this hurrying object.

The contruction of the long-sought SK'EYE-4 finally begins. It would be a 12.5" Newtonian with a focal ration of f/6 with a 1/8th wave accuracy. It is expected to take one year to get completed.

The Venus shines bigger and brighter in its crescent phase. It appears closer to horizon and remains on the sky for a shorter period and soon disappears behind horizon some time after Sunset. We captured the image of Venus as it shines bright near the horizon. The instrument used was SK'EYE-3, with Nokia 6600 VGA camera. View the image in the pictures gallery .

The project of photographing Venus Occultation by Moon was met with partial success. The approach phase could not be photographed in-toto with "Crescent and Star" in the same field because of small field of view of SK'EYE-3. However, receding phase was successfully photographed despite the Moon being very low at the dusty horizon. Please view the photos gallery.
